Due to a “high risk” pregnancy, Sally(not her real name) had been on bedrest for a few of months. In that time I have visited her twice. Each time I did so I came away so encouraged by her attitude and devotion to Christ. Yes, it has been a stressful time. Yes it has been difficult for her. Yes, it has been lonely for her. Yes… but she has not wallowed in self-pity.
I’ve visited with others in other situations and have heard of how they have felt let down by the church. No one calls them. No one emails them. No one visits them. Maybe my middle name is “no one” eh?? I did wonder who they called and emailed and visited, but was too coward to ask.
Then there are others who are constantly looking at “people”, and their standing and popularity. If Christ physically walked amongst us would they recognize Him for Who He is??
Sally learned to see the bigger picture. God had given her bedrest, so that both she and her husband could experience a change of pace and adjust their lifestyles gradually to life with a little baby. She used her time to read the Bible, books about the Bible, and other secular biographies which her husband borrowed for her from the library. Her walk with the Lord was/is not dependant on how others behave towards her.
