After reading 2 reviews of The Shack by William P. Young on the blogosphere, I bought a case and gave most of them away as gifts. I rarely jump on the bandwagon, but I’m glad I did this time.
The Shack is a book that focuses on relationship and intimacy with God; firstly the intimacy within the Godhead and then the inclusion of redeemed mankind into that relationship. Very simple and very profound. It exposes the ought tos and legalist tendencies, and shows up the inclinations to blame God when things go badly. The matter of forgiveness is also very nicely explained.
The main character faces a tragic event and then wrestles with God, or maybe God wrestles with him, to face up to its effect on his relationship with Him.
Opinions from friends re. the book have varied. One thought it was the best thing she has ever read and bought 2 cases of books (48 copies) to gives away as gifts. One said she learned more of the relationship within the Trinity. Another was blessed by the exposition on forgiveness. Another was a bit skeptical because she thought the book was too new-agey.
I highly recommend this book and trust it will be blessing to all who read it.
